D8136 – Test Method For Determining Plastic Film Thickness and Thickness Variability Using a Non-Contact Capacitance Thickness Gauge

8/28/2017- Wilmington, DE USA-  The new ASTM Standard, “D8136 – Test Method For Determining Plastic Film Thickness and Thickness Variability Using a Non-Contact Capacitance Thickness Gauge“, has completed balloting, and is now being formatted by the ASTM for release.  It is expected to be formally available in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

The new standard provides a better way for film producers and buyers to measure plastic film than the contacting method. (D6988 is the ASTM standard for contact micrometers).  This standard has a NIST traceable calibration that can help settle disputes about the average thickness of the film being bought/sold.  It provides a procedure for profiling film as well as spot measurements.
